Recently I was given the opportunity, thanks to the Family Review Network, to try out a very interesting product by the Pacific Shaving Company called shaving oil. I have to admit I was very intrigued at the idea of using oil rather then a generic bottle of shaving cream. I could only imagine that it would leave your skin feeling very moistened since it was an oil. I couldn't wait to give it a try!
I was very surprised when the bottle arrived. It is so small! However the box even tells you that big things come in small packages. Plus according to the directions you only need a few drops to use the oil to shave with, so each little bottle could have up to 100 shaves in it. WOW! Not only is that economical but it also takes up so little space. Using the oil would mean less shaving cream cans ending up in the landfills. Plus I think the small compact size would be great for traveling.
When I first opened the bottle I pour a couple of drops on the back of my hand. Yes, it's oil. But it's not like a cooking oil where it leaves a slimy residue on your skin. No way! The shaving oil went on nicely and my skin did not feel slimy at all. That is a plus in my book!
The Pacific Shaving Company shaving oil has a very pleasant scent. I smells like citrus. I was thinking orange juice but my husband said it smells more like grapefruit juice. It's a very light subtle scent.
My husband was the first to try the shaving oil. He followed the directions exactly using the recommended number of drops. He said he felt he needed a few more drops so he added a few more prior to shaving.
My husband said he was able to shave with the oil, but he had a wee bit of a hard time. My husband only shaves a couple of times a week due to very sensitive skin. His beard also comes in VERY thick, so I honestly think that has a lot to do with it. He was able to use just the shaving oil, but he said he really needed to use a lot to get it to work on his face. I feel that if he shaved more often and his beard wasn't so thick it would be easier for him. His verdict... it's OK, but he rather use shaving cream.
Next was my turn to give it a try. Unlike my husband I shave my legs frequently, plus my hair is not that thick. I followed the directions and applied the recommended number of drops and rubbed my hands together and then rubbed it on my legs. I wasn't able to do an entire leg with one application so I just did a section at a time.
At first I worried that I didn't use enough and I was afraid I'd cut myself. But I was wrong. The razor smoothly went across my leg with no problems at all. After I shaved an area of my leg I rinsed it off with some warm water and then felt my leg. It felt great! It removed the hair with no problem and my skin felt really nice and smooth. It did not feel oily or slimy. Instead if felt very soft.
I finished up shaving both my legs with no problem at all. After my shower I felt my legs again and they felt great. There was no residue or anything left over from the shaving oil. The shaving oil left a very faint subtle scent too. It has more of a "clean" smell after the shower then it did a citrus smell.
My overall verdict on the shaving oil by the Pacific Shaving Company is that I personally give it a two thumbs up for shaving my legs with it. My husband gave it one thumb up because he said it really didn't work well with his face due to the fact his beard is thick and he only shaves a few days a week. Even my husband said he liked the idea of the shaving oil, he liked the smell and the compact size and he was very impressed with how it didn't bother his very sensitive skin and he did not break out afterwards.
I would recommend the shaving oil to anyone who tends to shave more frequently and who does not have very thick facial hair. Plus the shaving oil is so much better for our environment and as an added bonus the Pacific Shaving Company plants a tree for every bottle that they sell. That is awesome!

The shaving oil would make a great stocking stuffer too!
