The View - July 13, 2010

In the past when I have written about The View I usually go in sequence. Today I'm going to mix it up a bit.

Did you catch today's show? I was super excited to see Brett Michaels today. I have been a fan of his ever since he played with the "hair band" Poison. After Brett's many health scares I was curious to hear what he had to say.

First I have to say that I wish Brett would give up the bandanna. I know that is his signature look but I think it looks silly. If he's covering up a receding hairline I say just accept it and move on. Many many have receding hairlines and go bald. It's a part of life. I would rather see him going bald then see that silly bandanna. Sorry Brett, that's just how I feel.

Back in the 80's when Poison was popular my Mom truly disliked the band (and all heavy metal/rock & roll bands for that matter). She thought they were all losers and "jerks". Seeing Brett on The View today I wish that my Mom was still alive so she could eat her words. Brett came off as a very nice guy, down to Earth and with a great sense of humor.

I cannot imagine going through all he went through in recent months. Between his emergency appendectomy to bleeding in is brain, and now he says he has a hole in his heart and needs surgery for it. WOW! I think all these health issues would have killed the average person. I think it's amazing that he has so much strength that he never gave up or gave in to his health problems. I am in great awe of his perseverance and determination to get well and stay healthy. Good for you Brett!

Brett also performed today. I was surprised The View didn't give the audience a copy of his new CD. Usually they do things like that.

Also on today's show was Lisa Lillien, otherwise known as "Hungry Girl". She was there to give viewers some low calorie summer time snacks and drinks. Sadly they had to rush through the segment and we never did get to see what the drink was on the front table that was made with hot cocoa. It looked like some kind of a chocolate drink and out of all the goodies on display that was the one I was most excited to see what it was. The recipes are suppose to be found on their website, www.TheView.ABC.go.com but I'm not finding them anywhere. If anyone happens to come across the recipes on the site could you please let me know where you found them? Thanks!

Today's guests host was Clay Aiken, former American Idol runner up (he lost to Rubin Studdard). I find it interesting that one of the hot topics discussed today had to do with the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" issue. I would have thought they would have given Clay more input into the topic but they only gave him very little air time. The ladies had a lot to say about the subject. Honestly I would have liked to have heard Clay's perspective since he is a homosexual.

By they way, Clay has come a long way from when he was that skinny, geeky kid on American Idol. I can't believe he's 32 years old already. Sheesh! Time flies! And he dropped the "A-Bomb"! I was SHOCKED! He said something to the effect that some children can be "A**holes". WOW! I can't believe he would say that on TV (glad to see the show wasn't live). Even Whoopie was shocked. You can tell Whoopie would love to say a few choice words from time to time but she keeps it "G rated".

The ladies spent a considerable amount of time today during the "Hot Topics" section talking about Mel Gibson and all the trouble he's been in recently too. One of the ladies (I can't remember who is was) asked the question about why is it that you NEVER heard about stuff like this when Mel was married to his first wife, Robin. I think they were married for 20+ years. Either he totally snapped when he got divorced or his wife kept A LOT of things secret from the public. I have a feeling alcohol has a lot to do with it. If that is the case it wouldn't surprise me if he has done similar things in the past but his wife kept it quiet. I hope not. I hope he wasn't this vulgar and abusive to his wife. It's no wonder she divorced his sorry a** (pardon my choice of words).

What was up with Sheri's hair? What was that weird side braid thing she had going on? That looked awful.

There was also a brief discussion about how some people want to ban air conditioners because they are harmful to the environment. NO WAY! We try and use our AC at a bare minimum because our electric bills goes through the roof, however if it's 100 degrees outside we need the AC. We're on the top floor in direct sunlight and our place can turn into an oven in no time. That is not fair to our kids or our pets. I think instead of banning AC's people should use them wisely and not keep them blasting 24/7.

Another hot topic discussion was an article about how parents love their children very much but are not happy. I was very interested in hearing about this further but he ladies totally went off subject and never discussed this at all. Instead they talked about only children being selfish and spoiled (if that was true or not). They NEVER explained why the article said parents love their children but are unhappy. I am very disappointed about this.

Overall today's show was just "OK". I enjoyed the interview with Brett Michaels but the rest of today's show was rather lackluster.

What do you think? Did you catch today's show? What did you think of the hot topic discussions? I would love to hear from my readers with their thoughts on today's show.
